RRG - RENOVATION OF REUSSIAN GOVERNMENT BUILDING - SCHOOL BUILDING
The former government building was built between 1720 and 1722 with two wings and in 1749 was subsequently expanded to form a three-wing complex with a courtyard. The building is considered a testament to contemporary representative architecture. The existing Goethe-Gymnasium/Rutheneum school is located to the north of the large baroque complex. Founded in 1608 as the Rutheneum Gymnasium, the old school building was demolished in 1884 and replaced by the new building typical of the time by the master builder Emil Weiß in 1884/1887. The Rutheneum Campus is being built at this traditional educational location as part of the Gera school concept.
The former Reuss government building was incorporated into the future school site. Building on the first stage of the "fundamental protection" with the main services of drying out and renovating the supporting structure in preparation for the future use of the school and the renovation of the facade and roof areas under aspects of monument protection law, the second stage of renovation and construction of the extensions for the future use as a high school is being implemented, i.e. all construction of the cladding (floor, walls, ceilings, doors) and other elements, such as railings and grilles in particular.
